Tanzania looses to Nigeria

Tanzania's defeat against Nigeria has eliminated them from any contention for the qualifier series. Dubious umpiring decision of 4 LBW and 1 run out and a catch effected the Tanzanian team.

The match referee Mr. Chippy of Lusaka South Country Club was in agreement of the umpires blunder. The matter was once again reported to the ICC organizers and the Zambian ICC Coordinator or convener who is the Zambian team official also found things favoring the Zambian teams position was turning down all our complains and protests.

Nigeria won the toss and elected to bat and managed to score 160 runs. Their No. 7 batsmen Mike Omugui survived the Tanzanian bowling attack scoring 57 runs. At one stage the Nigerians were 48 for the loss of 6 wickets, it was at this time that all Tanzanian appeals for LBW's and run outs were turned down by the Umpires. The Tanzanian team were demoralized and were helpless.

Chasing this meager score of 160, Tanzanian batsmen were in a night mare when they were reduced to 18 runs for 6 wickets, i.e. 3 LBW's and 2 caught behinds decisions which were doubtful. The intention of the Umpires to see Tanzania Out was also reported to the ICC Organizer but once again no action was taken.

Tanzania were bundled out in 63 runs only.

Khalil Rehemtullah and Hasnain Damji of Tanzania claimed 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

Tomorrow on 07/08/2004 Tanzania faces Zambia who have already qualified for a place in Malaysia and will have to win to prove that they have been thrown out of the tournament due to poor umpiring.

The Tanzanian officials have this time lodged the complain and have requested the ICC regional manager and top former Zambian Cricketers to come and witness the game, so as to pressure fair umpiring with their presence. During all other matches Tanzania hardly witnessed any crowd but since they are playing the host nation Zambia they expect people to judge.
