Tanzania U19 wins again
The Denny XI a youth team comprising of junior players from Johannesburg
faced the mighty Tanzanian U19 team at the WitsCollege ground in Johannesburg.
Tanzania U19 won the toss and elected to bat, opener Hamisi Abdallah and Shahid
Dhanani put up a formidable partnership of 173 runs in 26.2 overs with Hamisi
Abdalallah scoring 82 runs in 70 balls. His batting displayed the class which
pleased the spectators. His partner Shahid Dhanani ended scoring his maiden
century and the only one involving the participating teams in a warm up
fixtures. He got out in the 47th over having scored 101 runs in 104 balls.
Other contributions came from Dharmin Parmar 30 runs, Moahmmed Khimji 15 and
Khalil Rehmtullah 17. Tanzania U19 piled up 328 runs in 50 overs, loosing 8
wickets.
In reply the Denny XI team scored 99 runs all out, with their reliable batsman
Clark Brent who scored 54 runs not out. The Tanzania U19 bowlers meant business
from the word go when it restricted Denny XI to 33 runs for 6 wickets in the
first 15 overs. Both Benson Mwita and Hamisi Abdallah took 3 wickets each to
pave way for a comfortable win, Athumani Kakonzi took 2 wickets.
